73% of Organizations Fail to Block Privileged User Access
The 2013 Vormetric Insider Threat Report administered by The Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), revealed insider threats (i.e., threats posed by employees, third parties with insider privileges, or malicious software that uses legitimate access rights to networks, applications, and sensitive data as an attack vector) continue to present a number of challenges for many organizations. The research also reveals that:
- More than half (54%) of IT and security professionals believe insider threats are more difficult to prevent and detect than they were in 2011.
- Organizations continue to invest in perimeter and host-based security technologies, even though these security defenses have limited success with knowledgeable insiders and sophisticated cyber adversaries.
- Given the increasing de-perimeterization, advanced organizations are moving toward a data-centric security strategy that provides more controls and access around the data itself and more granular data security intelligence.
